I Am Scared

I am scared. I have been for some time. I have never not loved my country, yet I feel like a stranger more and more. I am not certain when it happened.  As an African-American, I had already forgiven America for its atrocities not only against my people, but also for  the atrocities against other people groups.  I am persuaded, that however gross they were, God allowed, ordained it to be.

I said in my About Me piece that my worldview is framed by the Bible. It drives how I live, how I view things because I believe the Bible is the Word of God, and it is truth. From it, the laws of this country were established, governments framed.

I am scared because truth has been discarded, so when I view things through the lens of the Bible, I am now a hater and silenced. Truth may only be spoken in like circles. What happened to absolutes? What happened to free discourse? What happened to critical thinking? Is tolerance afforded only to those who are in agreement?

I believe at one time in America, this nation did espouse the principles of the Bible. What happened? I do not pretend to know the answer, but I do know that over and over in the Old Testament, God warned his people about the danger of adapting to the culture around them because of the likelihood that doing so would turn them away from following him and his teachings. Am I suggesting that America is God’s nation? No. The whole world of nations belongs to him. But I am suggesting we have moved away from where we once were.  In the New Testament we are told – “And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed…” Romans 12:2a

So I cannot drink the Kool-Aid. I cannot call right wrong, and wrong, right because the prophet Isaiah warns us of judgment in Isaiah 5:20-30 for those who call evil good, and good evil.

You see, I still believe God created the world.  He created everything with a purpose; the sun, the moon, the stars, the trees and all vegetation, the birds, sea creatures, and insects.

I still believe God created man and that I am not a product of evolution. I still wonder at the complexity of how I am formed. It was not random. Too much thought, and design went into making my body function the way it does. I remember once not so long ago, I was looking at the back of my hands thinking the extra skin on my knuckles made my hands look older; then considered the extra skin prevented my skin from tearing. God designed it that way on purpose.

Why can’t creation and evolution be taught in schools and let the students draw their own conclusions based on the information presented? Shouldn’t we want our children to develop and use their critical thinking skills?

I also still believe God designed and defined marriage to be between a man and a woman.  Marriage between a man and a woman is God’s symbol of the relationship between Christ and the church.  But now the law of the land in America has made what God calls sin, legal. Because the Bible calls homosexuality a sin, and I believe it to be so, does not make me homophobic. I neither hate nor fear homosexuals. I understand that we are all born in sin. I don’t define sin. God defines sin. Homosexuality is a sin because God said so, but so is adultery, fornication, lying, stealing, murder, covetousness, and idolatry.

I am scared that to hold to an opposite view of the mainstream, to hold to my sincerely held Christian beliefs is no longer tolerated, and instead berated. I am afraid that this will only lead to something much more sinister.

This post is not one of hate, but of love. I too was born a sinner, rebelled against God, and his commandments, wanted to do things my way, but by his grace and mercy, I have been awakened to his truth, his love. If my house was on fire, and someone noticed, I would want them to wake me up, to get my attention so that I might be saved. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I am called to share the truth and pray it is revealed and accepted because he calls on all to repent and believe in him.

  1. Could not have said this better myself. We are called to Love and show love, even when none is shown to us. It is hard to stand sometimes against a raging crowd, but I remember what my Jesus went through for me on the cross, and what happened 3 days later, I get excited that ultimately God is ALWAYS victorious. If Jesus can suffer on the cross for me, I will suffer for Him. Not easy to do…I have to keep my eyes on the cross.

      1. The one I published Yesterday about my Appalachian Trail thru hike was the same way. However, I wrote it the first of December. I wasn’t brave enough to post it. I knew God wanted me to, but I kept telling Him, “NO. No one will understand.” He replied, “Do it for me”. (If you read my posts you’ll see God and I have frequent back and forth conversations several times a day 🙂 )I totally understand what you mean. Sometimes it is hard to post even if we know the info is from HIM and needs to be shared. I am here to tell you, you are blessing. I have just found you, and I already know God has anointed your words. The things you write, people need to hear. Believers and non believers alike. I am sincere in saying I WILL be praying for you. I truly believe God is going to use your Blog to do great things for His Kingdom. Keep writing. I for one will keep reading.

      2. Thanks Jess. You have been a gift to me today. My Bible reading today included James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. I will definitely read your last post among others.

  2. God does not live in the bible, or in any building. Books like the bible, koran, gita, etc. Are there to provide moral code. They are passed down from others. Not God. God lives in your and my [our] hearts. To place one’s trust in the words of men, or women. Only leads to misery.

The country known as United States of America. Is in fact a corporation. Run by the City of London. That city has a geographical place but is not attached to any other. Except Washington D.C. and the Vatican in Rome. They are run by international bankers. These people are slowly integrating it into the new world order, of one world government, run by themselves. It is not just U.S.A. that is undergoing this change.

African Americans were given a raw deal yet they are not the only ones sold into slavery. These same bankers would have s all sold into economic slavery. Notwithstanding, women sold as sex slaves and men as slaves in different industries and situations.

There is a way to be free, just do not look to the law, bankers or politicians. For they will sell us down the river every time.

    1. Hello there – You are absolutely correct, God does not live in the Bible and we should place no confidence in men. However, the Bible is the revealed will of God to man. The Bible is the very Word of God, whether we believe it or not. God defines what is morally right and wrong. In 2 Timothy 3:16,17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

      1. Howdy Ms. Fisher,

The bible is words, not word. The word of God is a vibration that we may all experience. Breath is breath. This where we find God. Books like the bible or any other, are passed down and their true content becomes lost and obscure as each translation makes the meanings different. If you write “place no confidence in man”. Then in the next sentence that it is the revealed will of God to man? This is contrary. As too the notion that only christians can know God. Good luck with your beliefs. May they bring you peace. So far, I have little evidence that they do.

        Cheers Jamie

      2. Thanks Jamie, but I need no luck. I have a sweet assurance because I know of whom I believe. Jesus said that he is the way, the truth and the life, no man can come unto the Father (God), except through him. So you know where I stand.
        Nice conversing with you.

  3. It takes courage to stand for what you believe. I understand where you are. My heart is very heavy because I have a son who is homosexual. While I have shown him that I still love him, I did share my belief with him that it is against the God I believe in. This is definitely a hard place when we read the Word of God and see that the truth is right before our eyes. Just because something is legal, doesn’t make it right. The tolerance spouted for the world does not include tolerance for God’s people who stand by the truth. The Word says that the times will wax worse and worse. It is the Word of God coming to pass. The step for believers is continue to share the truth, in season and out, as well as pray for the hearers to hear.
